Maria stayed on at Nlolo after Charles Morgan Chiene died and brought up the five children. Freddie was born 3 months after his father's death. At the time of the Japanese Invasion of Manila, all of Charles Morgan's children and Dottie were interred at the P.O.W. camp at Santo Tomas for 3 years. However, Dora and gordon Eady were interred with The British Consulate Staff as he had been recalled by the Admiralty and attached to the British Consulate as Shipping Advisor. They were released by Diplomatic Exchange in 19442. The others were liberated by the American First Cavalry Division in 1945. Soon after tat Walter and Jane Chiene were visited by Maggie, Patrick and Dorothy (Dora) and Jessie with her child, Isabel. Jane has a photograph of this visit. They went onto San Francisco (U.S.A) where Dottie worked in the British Consulate until they returned to Manila in 1947. Citation details: page 77 |
