Born at Yankton South Dakota, he was 12 years old when he joined his father in Iliolo, where his uncle Charles Morgan was sugar planting. Later he became a Customs Office in Manila. After a period in China, as a railroad Construction Engineer, he returned to the States in 1905 going to Spokane, again in the field of railroad construction. The Skene River Territory soon beckoned and he started north for the Grand Trunk System. Married in 1909 he took his bride, Jane to the wilds of British Columbia, for 5 years of hard work in the expanding railway system of the province. The 1914 war brought them back to Portland, Oregon from where after 3 years they moved to Marshfield (now known as Coos Bay) where he was a much respected member of the community, rendering enormous service as a member of The Rotary Club, The Chamber of Commerce, and Elks. Fishing, gardening and driving a car were among his chief hobbies. he was Manager of the Local Water Company till he retired, but his real interest lay in the yeoman service which he gave to the Oregon State Motoring Association of which he was a Director for many years.

His widow, Jane is still going strong, awaiting the birth of her first great grand child. She is over 90 and waited to see if she passed her driving test before buying a new car last year. She passed and is now driving her new car!! What a great girl. She still plays bridge. Her recollections have been of considerable help in the recording of this section and among them is the fact that Walter called on Hall Chiene in Vancouver, when on a Rotary Convention. He got a cool reception and thought Hall felt he might want to borrow money - so no further exchange of information took place.
