Text: According to http://www.scottishchurches.org.uk/sites/site/id/2262/name/St.+Mary%27s+Chapel+Dunfermline+Fife This chapel is said to have been towards the north end of what is now Elgin Street in Dunfermline. It may be a chapel referred to in charters as early as the fourteenth century, which mention a -Lady Chapell near Dunfermling- and -Virgin Chapple near Dunfermling-. The chapel was destroyed by Cromwell-s troops in the 1650s and was certainly ruinous by 1783. The final remains were removed in 1814, though there may be evidence of the building under modern developments. |
