Lesslie Cunninghame Chiene was born while the family went on a visit to Edinburgh. It is said he was to have been name Walter Glas after his uncle, but owing to his tragic death his was changed. True to family tradition he was a keen rugger player and won many sprinting trophies at the annual Highland Sports held each New Years Day in Sydney. He always carried a pocket edition of Robert Burn's and had an apt quotation to meet and fit any situation. After some years as a successful estate agent he floated as a glass works business in opposition to an existing monopoly, but was ultimately force into liquidation. A fit young athlete in early days he never drank till he was 30, but in his later years, business not being to good, one thing led to another and he was easily "bowled over".

Married to Millicent Powers he died of a heart attack in 1934 at the age of 50. They had two daughters Beatrice (Bette) and Shirley who studied economics at Sydney University, married William jordan in South Africa, subsequently divorced and having worked for the Australian Trade Commission in London she now resides in Sydney. Having worked as acoountant for Helena Rubenstein for the last 23 years, whe has now retired with her friend Mary Dillon to live in Bateau Bay, close to the sea and a golf course a little to the north of Sydney.
