His brother was known as "Uncle Jack" in the family. I have a photostat of his birth certificate which shows he was born in St. Andrews, Fife (correct paternal details). This duplicate was certified by the minister of St. Andrews in 1940 and was sent to him at 480 Pine Street, San Francisco, so he must have been alive then, or did te requirement arise from his death? He would have been 87 then. Dora Eady recalls that he was married in 1934 when she met him. in 1926 he gave 6 volumes of an Encyclopedia to Walter Lyon when he was 6 years old and there are some interesting inscriptions on the fly leaves of this book, but there is a homily from an unknown John Alexander Harris, exhorting him to grow up "strong bodied and clean minded" by which he would be able to resist "all forms of temptation" .

Virgina Chiene, Walter's wife is the source of this information. The writing is so good it can hardly have been Walter's at the age of 6 - the entry i sdated 7.26.26 and she says Walter put in the "F" for Fraser - his mother's maiden name. According to my reckoning Uncle David, was in fact Walter's grand uncle (see Family TreeF). There is also on the fly leaf the Chiene family crest identical to that in Appendixe I figure.
